Women's Health

I recently discovered a blog called The Beet Goes On, which contained a post about Pap Smears, which I think are essential for women, having had an abnormal one myself when I was only 22.

So whilst we are on the subject on women's health, when did you last have your iron levels checked?

I had a rather long doctor's appointment a few weeks ago - I hadn't had a checkup since having Missy Megan (who will be 4 this year). Off I went with my list & yes I had my pap smear, which came back normal. And she gave me a few referrals for bits & pieces of me that are starting to wear out - I am past a certain age you know. But my iron levels are the only thing that was not normal with my blood test. My reading was 19, my doctor would like it be 26.

Now I take an iron tablet every day. And my energy level has increased, just like my doctor told me it would. And those of you who know me, know how much energy I need to get through a day! I need another blood test in 3 months to see how it is all going.

So if you are feeling tired, as we mum's always do, it may be worth your while asking your doctor to check your iron levels. Maybe your levels are low too.......

Why don't you do it & let me know how you go?

The last time I had my iron levels checked was when I was pregnant with Annabelle (4 years ago). I have a blood disorder called Thalasemia (sp?) which makes it look like my iron levels are low, when they really aren't. Which made it tricky when the doctor was trying to prescribe me with iron tablets when I was preg!
